It’s been 35 days since I started my fitness program, and I’m not going to lie – it has been hard. It has also been rewarding. I feel better.
I like being in control of what I eat and how I move. Well, I’ve always been in control, I know that. But I haven’t exercised that control for a long time and it feels good to do so now.
I like getting up from the table feeling satisfied and yet not weighed down by the amount of food I’ve eaten.
I like knowing I’m eating foods that will fuel my body instead of putting it into a coma.
I like that I can now do 50 minutes on the elliptical in a row, when I could only do 20 minutes when I started – and even that 2o minutes was a real push.
I like that I had to buy new weights because mine became too light.
I like that my stomach doesn’t hurt from all the soda I used to drink.
I haven’t had any alcohol in 35 days and I no longer miss it.
I haven’t strayed from my plan, though I have made modifications.
I like all of that, and yet it’s still hard. I don’t expect that’s going to change, and that’s ok. I’m not afraid of the hard stuff.

I think it will get easier. I remember my eating plan (six meals a day) was a burden at first, but it’s such a habit it now that I don’t even think about anymore.

@Finn, I would like the eating part to be easier. So far I’m in that honeymoon phase so resisting temptation isn’t that hard, but I know that’s going to wear off. I think motivating myself to exercise daily is probably going to always be hard for me, but I’m ok with that right now.

You are doing SO great.
I’m not sure if it will ever get “not hard” for me easier, but at least now we know it’s worth it.
GO YOU!!!!

@Avitable, No, it’s just for now that I’m not drinking. I’m trying to go as “clean” as I reasonably can by cutting out artificial sweeteners and alcohol, as well as watching fat and calories. I’ll add alcohol back in later, but in much smaller quantities than the almost nightly cocktail I was having before.

Miss Brittle sent me to pat you on the bum and I couldn’t help but notice that it feels pleasantly firm.
Good job!

Good for you! High five!! I’m trying to get back on the exercise too, but it’s so damn hard to get into a new routine. And no alcohol?? You’re a saint!

@Jessica, The no alcohol isn’t as hard as I thought it would be, except when we go to dinner and they have $3 Lemon Drops. Then it sucks donkey balls!

Sent here by Miss Britt, and just wanted to say GO YOU!!
I just started Weight Watchers a week ago, so I’m getting used to this portion and food control thing. It’s really made me think about how, when, what and why I ate.

@donna, Thanks for stopping by! It is eye-opening to see what a normal portion size should be versus what I would mindlessly eat without even being hungry. Now I eat when I’m hungry, instead of being bored or emotional.

@Hilly, I do love feeling like I’m back in the driver’s seat, instead of feeling like I was on an out-of-control freight train. That’s worth all of this by itself.

I love this post. Knowing others have made changes in their life to be healthier is always nice to read. I gave up soda (with the exception of one every couple of weeks or so), which really helped me.
Getting into an exercise program has been most difficult for me, but I blame myself for not pushing myself harder. Now that summer has finally arrived, I’m hoping that I can use this short time to kick start my fitness schedule.
Now giving up alcohol… that’s a tough one for me. I don’t drink too often, but I do love my gin & tonics. I may have to adjust elsewhere. *hic*

@martymankins, There have been a few times that giving up alcohol has been hard, but mostly it’s been surprisingly easy. I usually only drink at an event, which leads to snacking for me. I don’t need the calories!
