It’s been a busy weekend and none of it had to do with Halloween! In fact we kind of blew Halloween completely off and Hubby and I had “date night” on Friday.
Every once in a while we like to get a suite at one of the casinos and get away for a night – you know, be all married WITHOUT children! This time we chose the Peppermill and it was awesome! They have remodeled all their suites from the Miami-Vice 80′s look to a posh Tuscan theme that was really, really nice. Our suite was two rooms with giant plasma tv’s in both rooms, a full-sized bar, leather furniture in the sitting room and a jacuzzi in the bedroom. Isn’t that how life should be?
The rest of the weekend was kind of lazy planning for the week. I’m taking a quick trip with the guys from work Monday night and Tuesday – we’re going deep sea fishing! Doesn’t that make you think of the I Love Lucy episode where Ricky kept saying he was going Dipsy Fishing? It makes me laugh every time. Anyway, I’ve never been Dipsy Fishing and I’m looking forward to it. Everyone is bringing something, and since I’m the newbie and don’t have any cool fishing toys I’m bringing the food.
Because we have to catch the boat at 5AM (egads!) on Tuesday, we’re going to drive down tomorrow night and get hotel rooms. Whatever I pack has to survive that long on ice, so I decided to make what my Nanna would have made – pasties! No, not the kind the strippers stick on their tata’s! The Cornish meat pie kind. When my Nanna made them they were like food of the Gods, when I make them not so much. I’m working on it, but this batch is way too salty. My last batch was bland and underseasoned so maybe the next one will be a happy medium.
I also made Martha Stewart’s Brown Butter Toffee Blondies, which are truly divine. I’ll post them sometime this week. I’ve made them several times and haven’t screwed them up yet – and believe me, if someone can screw up the baking it’s me!
I know, this post is dryer than wallpaper paste. I’d love to liven things up with a dirty joke or something, but I got nuthin… Hopefully I’ll have a great fish story when I get back!
