My aunt recently became an iPhone convert and asked me which apps were my favorites so she could get on with her mad downloading spree. There’s a reason we’re related! Unfortunately most of the apps I use on a regular basis aren’t the type she would be interested in because she’s not into the social networking.
I’m always looking for new and interesting apps so I thought I’d show you mine if you’ll show me yours.
WordPress for iPhone I used this app a few times in the past, but the lack of a landscape keyboard made it cumbersome at best. The latest update fixed that, and since I’m lazy with my updating I only just found out. The app is becoming a lot more functional than it used to be because it now also supports comment moderation, which is something I wanted. It still doesn’t give you the ability to reply to comments from within the app (at least not that I’ve found) but it’s a work in progress. I’m digging this app much more since the latest update, even though it could still use a few bells and whistles (give me buttons for bold and italics because html and I are not friends!). As long as you don’t want to include links in the post, you can bang off a quickie pretty easily with it.
Twittelator Pro This is by far my favorite Twitter app, even over Tweetie which has a coolness factor all it’s own with the conversation bubbles. Both apps have a landscape keyboard option,and both support multiple accounts if you have them. The thing I like about Twittelator Pro over Tweetie is that it gives you a new post number count for your friends and your @mentions. I don’t always see my replies in Tweetie, but the little red bubble on Twittelator Pro makes them stand out. Both are paid apps, but I’m a firm believer in people getting paid for their talents so I don’t mind paying for apps I really like. Besides, $4.99 isn’t that bad for an app I use every day. Tweetie is $2.99.
Facebook This is a freebie app to connect with your Facebook account. If you have a Facebook account and an iPhone, you probably already have this app. You can’t access all the silly quizzes or the games, but you can update your status, view and comment on your friend’s updates, and upload photos. Sometimes I get posting errors with this app, but overall it gets the basic job done.
iTip I really suck at math so figuring tips causes mental gyrations likely to bring on a brain cramp. My mom uses the double the sales tax method, but that doesn’t quite reach 15% and I usually tip more than that. iTip is easy to use with slide wheels for the ticket amount, the percentage you want to give, and the number of parties to split between. As long as you are splitting evenly, this works like magic beans. If you’re going by the price of what you ordered you’re on your own for the split, which I like to avoid because, again, math.
Word Warp(free) I don’t play many games on my iPhone, but I’m a sucker for word games. This is one is my favorite. You have to put up with ads in the free version, but they’re not too obnoxious.
The Weather Channel This is another freebie that I use a lot. It seems to be pretty accurate in my area. You can also save favorite cities or zip codes and check on those really easily. If I want to see what the weather is like at my Dad’s house, I just need to select his town from my favorites list and voila! It also shows you severe weather alerts in your area, which is kind of cool.
These are the apps I use every day, or at least every week. What about you? Which apps should I be using that I’ve missed?

I am very fond of the Oblique Strategies widget/app by Brian Eno and Peter Schmidt.
It’s been around for a long time, but the idea of having a portable set of of the strategies with you if you ever needed them could be really cool.
I’ve used the Oblique Strategies when I’ve really been stuck mentally and I needed a way to come at a situation from a totally unfamiliar angle.
Think of it as being able to hit the random button on the destination of your logic trips.

@crispy king,
Why is it that your comments keep getting caught in the spaminator? What is it that Akismet knows about you that I don’t? Is there something you want to tell me? hmmm?

@floating princess,
I believe that Akismet knows that all of my online stuff is done for free and somehow hates on me.
Oh, and that whole botnet that I run in Eastern Europe.
