Bloated Over the weekend I went on an RSS spree and added a bunch of your blogs to my google reader. I trolled around and added feeds from people I have found interesting as commenters on other blogs. Clever, no? (ok so I don’t have many original thoughts) Because the reader adds up to 10 previous posts when you add a new feed, mine is now bulging at the seams. I anticipate wading all the way through it sometime around Easter! I could mark them as read and start fresh, but where’s the fun in that? I like to get to know you a little by shamelessly stalking previous posts and maybe even rummaging through your archives. I’m a lurkey turkey like that.
Reading Habits Most of the time I read all of your bloggy goodness through my iPhone because it’s so handy when I have a spare moment. I used to carry books with me. Now I carry all of you around in my pocket. (Sorry about the hot and sweaty part. Those are the drawbacks of getting in my pants.) It also has the added bonus of letting me see posts earlier in the day so I can post a relavent comment during the discussion instead of coming into it after the fact. Sometimes I don’t get to my home computer for days, so it’s nice that I can read your posts when they’re fresh.
Because of that I love the blogs that are optimized for the iPhone. There are some blogs I can’t comment on from my phone, or some where it’s more difficult. Those I have to mark and comment on from home. Since I am old and I suffer from CRS I usually forget what I had to say by that time, so I end up not commenting at all.
Writing I have occasionally written a post (like this one) on my iPhone with the WordPress app, but it’s kind of a pain in the ass. I don’t know a lot of HTML and you have to hand-code anything you want to show up in something other than the default font. That’s part of the reason I’m not a daily poster. Well, that and the fact that I’m just not very prolific.
It would be cool if the makers of the WordPress app added a few bells and whistles like buttons for bold, italic, and strikeout fonts, and the ability to add links. I would totally pay real dollars for an upgrade like that! Having the ability to respond to comments from the app would be a total bonus. I can do it now through Safari, but it’s a little cumbersome and I’m lazy.
Twitpress I know some of you hate it when people post blog updates in Twitter, but I like it. Plus come on, a name like Twitpress? Awesomeness! I like seeing post updates, especially if I don’t currently read your blog. It gives me a way to find you easily because, again, the lazy. I don’t think you understand the depths of my lazy!
So yeah, I heart my iPhone for the blogginess. There are many other things I love about it, but that’s a post for another day.
