Ok internets I need your help once again.

A while back I had the great re-design on my site, which I love.  During the theme change the header name was changed to Princess Buttercream because it suits me so much better.   It’s a play on the Princess Buttercup from Princess Bride, and incorporates my love of cakery at the same time.   So after today the name in your feed readers is going to change from Punchdrunk Princess to Princess Buttercream because I want them to be all matchy matchy.

Here’s where I need your help.  I’m considering changing my internet name from floating princess to Buttercream because I’m kind of tired of that name and it doesn’t really suit me anymore.  It’s kinda buggin’ actually.   It was great when the family was all into kung-fu and my joke was that I had “floating princess” style, but that’s getting pretty tired and old and Buttercream seems to fit better.

So what’s the ettiquete for changing your online persona?  If I had a different “real” name I would just use that, but my name is Lisa and I’m not going to go there.  How far do you go with the change and how do you let people know that you’re still the same person, other than by posting it on your blog?

The other problem is that EVERYTHING connected with my blog has the floating princess name, including my Twitter account, my domain name, myBloglog, stumble, digg, everything.  I don’t even know how to migrate my blog to a new domain name and have it re-direct so I’d have to get someone to do that for me.    Do I change ALL of that too?  It’s a lot of work, and if the floating princess name wasn’t REALLY bugging I wouldn’t bother because I’m inherently lazy at heart.

So I’m asking, what do you think?  First off does the FP name bug you as much as me lately?  Would you change?  It’s not like I’m internet famous or anything, so it’s not THAT big a deal.  Or is it?

Help me internets!  You’re my only hope…

    I know the feeling. It’s such a hassle to change your online identity in any significant way. But I say, if you’re not happy with the FP name, go ahead and change! Now’s the time, before you get any more well-known. Some of those places will be simple to change, like Twitter. Others, not so much. My hosting service has a super-easy redirect service, so I have no clue how it normally works. I suggest asking Jester or Marty, the code gurus of the PRB, for help and/or advice.

    I like Buttercream.

    @SJ,

    I don’t know Jester or Marty, so I’d feel weird asking for advice. I think I’m going to go for it, though. At least in part at first. The domain name change is a little outside my skill set so far!

    Well I went from Troll Baby to Vodkarella and then to Karen Sugarpants and each time, I lost people but the ones I love stayed along for the ride. I say do what you want to do…whatever makes you happy. :)

    In a past blogging life, I reinvented myself so many times that it wasn’t even funny! As long as you let everyone know it’s you, they will follow!

    I say be who you want to be because Buttercream sure is a cute name!
