Ahhhhhhhh.

My house is back to normal.

I love the Christmas decorations.  My house always looks so lived in and happy feeling.  But I love it when they come down too.  We put up our decorations right after Thanksgiving so I start getting a little antsy to get everything squared away about the day after Christmas.

New Year’s Day is our traditional “restore normalcy” day in our house.  This year it only took a couple of hours to get everything back in the boxes and up in the attic, but it sure felt good!

Now begins the Desolation… the two months that seem to stretch on forever without a break – January and February.  It is my least favorite time of year and I always end up wishing I were a bear so I could hibernate.  Think of it – you get a great fur coat, salmon is your favorite food, awesome manicure (you can scrape the bark off a tree with that manicure!), you have almost no predators, when you talk people listen, and you get to sleep through the cold, dark winter months.   You don’t have to shovel the walk, deal with frozen pipes, go to work and come home in the dark, or wear eighteen layers to keep warm.  Sounds good, right?

    Sounds good to me! Maybe next time I’ll come back as a bear. I was gonna be a rock …

    SJ –

    So far I haven’t come up with any down sides to being a bear, except maybe being made into a rug or ending up in a zoo. Even then you get three squares and a comfy house in the zoo, and you move on to the next gig if you’re a rug. Win-win situation!

    This is exactly why I throw a post-Christmnas tea party in late January. I don’t even put my decorations up until Xmas eve. Then my house is all decorated for a month with minimal decor (as if I already took most of it down).

    @TheQueen,

    That’s a great idea! A party at the end of January sounds like just the thing to break up the winter.
