As I’m sure many of you have seen, the Five Questions meme has been going around and I asked the lovely SJ to interview me.  She sent me the following five questions and here are my answers:

1. What do you feel is the #1 way blogging has enriched your life?
The greatest thing blogging does for me is to give me an outlet for the minutiae that clogs up my brain.   I get to put my thoughts down in black and white and send them out into the blogosphere for everyone to read, and sometimes I’m lucky enough to get comments back from people who have experienced similar things, or have ideas for things I haven’t tried, or different insights that I haven’t considered.  It’s a great way to “meet” people with whom I would never have an opportunity to interact otherwise.

2. You and I seem to be the only ones in blogdom who put multicolored lights on their Christmas tree! Mine’s a nostalgia-for-childhood thing; what about you?
My family was always a multi-colored light family.  There has to be as many lights as possible, and they must never, ever blink.  I was toying with the idea of an all-white light tree this year, and after seeing my Aunt’s beautiful tree yesterday I might actually break with tradition next year.  It’s hard, though, because the multi-colored lights make it seem like home for me.

3. You recently made the switch from PC to Mac. Let’s hear your pros and cons for both.
So far I haven’t found any cons for the Mac!  I’m still in that honeymoon phase, but the Mac is pretty intuitive.  Once you get used to the differences I think it’s easier to navigate, and it’s just plain nicer to look at.  I like the clean, sleek interface.  My PC always seemed clogged up with junk in the menu bars when I had more than one program open.  With the Mac everything is neatly organized in the Dock.  I still have a lot to learn about the Mac, but I am definitely a convert!

4. You were forced to shut down your previous blog due to conflicts with your personal life. How does that experience affect what you write about now? Do you ever feel stifled?
Sometimes I do feel a little limited in what I can talk about, but mostly I think that’s a good thing.  I was a little free with my other blog and I don’t need to be putting every little thing out there.  When I started my first blog I had the naive new blogger idea that no one would read what I wrote anyway so it didn’t really matter.  I had a little problem with oversharing, at least past my comfort zone, and after I realized that people I knew could find me because I’d left myself a little too open I got uncomfortable.  Now people I know read my blog and I’m always conscious of that.  It keeps me grounded and it makes me think before I hit that publish button!  So I don’t talk about work except in the most general of ways, I don’t name names, and I (usually) don’t talk about things that would embarrass someone close to me if our friends found out.

5. Share with us who the top five people are on your “Bloggers I’d Love To Meet” list, and why.
This is hard!  There are so many people I’d like to meet.  Here are my top 5, in no particular order:
1. Jen from Jennsylvania, because her books crack me right up and she seems like someone I’d like to have a beer with.  She talks a lot like I do, and she’s rocking the 40ness, so I think she’d be fun to hang out with.
2. John from Buddha on The Road. I do love the southern boys!  No really, I would like to spend some time with him talking about buddhism and what led him down that path.  I’m always interested in what he has to say on his blog and I bet he’d be interesting to talk to.
3. Hilly from Snackie’s World.  Hilly befriended me when I was a giant flake and she’s still nice to me.  She seems like a great person and I’d like to know her.
4. Lorraine from Extra Icing on the Cake. She is a stellar cake artist and has classes to teach others how to make her beautiful fondant figures.  Since she’s from Scottland she doesn’t travel anywhere close to me.  I would love to attend her workshops!
5. SJ from Pseudotherapy.  I know it may seem cliche to list the person who interviewed me, but I follow her on Twitter and read her blog, and she seems like a person I would love to know.

There are many other bloggers I’d like to meet, some of whom I’ve just started reading.  Through other blogs I’ve started reading Miss Britt, Blogography, AvitableNYC Watch Dawg, Citizen of the Month, and many more.  Some of those I’ve been reading without comments, some I’ve commented on a few times but haven’t really introduced myself.  I think it would be fun to go to a blogger event like TequilaCon and meet everyone in one fell swoop, but since I don’t really know anyone it’s kind of a big step for a wallflower like me.

If you’d like to play along, just follow these instructions:
1. Leave me a comment saying, “Interview me.”
2. I will respond by emailing you five questions. I get to pick the questions.
3. You will update your blog with the answers to the questions. Be sure you link back to the original post.
4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.

    Great job! Very thorough answers.

I have pledged to attend TequilaCon ’09, so you can totally hang with me if you go! I’m pretty sure Hilly is going as well, and she’s great at making people feel right at home. So as soon as we find out where it’s going to be this year, you should start making plans to attend!

SJ´s last blog post..Love at first sound

It’s hard for me to go to things like that where I don’t know people but it would be cool to give it a try. I hope it’s somewhere reasonably close so I can go!

An event like TequilaCon can be a pretty daunting adventure… but I think that once you commit in your mind to going, you’ll find out that once you get there it is very different from what people expect. There’s usually a sense of knowing someone already through their blog, so even though you’ve never met them in person… that initial awkwardness isn’t nearly as awkward.

I highly recommend trying it out.

NYCWD´s last blog post..Just like last year, only with less Imodium!

That’s what I’m hoping! I also think I need to get more adventurous with the commenting on blogs I already read so I can “introduce” myself to people before actually meeting them. It seems like that would help too.

    Thanks for stopping by!
