Monday Montage

I have all these little things to talk about so I’m just going to post a bullety list of randomness. Feel free to jump in if something strikes your fancy!

• I have been getting the spam-o-rama lately here and some of them have been sneaking through so I’m thinking of turning on comment moderation for a while.  How do you guys feel about blogs that moderate comments?  I don’t generally mind it but I know some do and I’m on the fence about starting it.  Conversely, does anyone have a comment spam plugin they love because I have the akismet and it’s not getting the job done.
• I have been horrible at responding to comments lately and I’m sorry!  I’m also way behind on my reading so I apologize for that too.  With 104 unread items in my reader I’ve got some catching up to do and I’m sorry if it’s taking me a while to get to you.
• I have to make a cake this week and my heart isn’t in it, which is making it really hard to get started.  I have a mental block against this cake and it’s buggin!  I can’t even get a concept formed in my head.
• I am loving Ruby!  I was skeptical about the concept of this show, but I just love Ruby.  She’s such a kick in the pants!  She brings me back to the south in a heartbeat.  I used to live in the Great State of Georgia and it doesn’t take much to get that accent rolling again.  One half hour show and I’m drawlin’ like a belle who nevah left.  The thing that appeals to me is that she’s so real.  I’ve watched other shows about morbidly obese people but was never able to relate to them.  Ruby I get.
• I finally wrapped my mind around my Thanksgiving dinner.  I think the problem wasn’t the dinner itself, it was the consequences:  I turned down the “family” dinner this year because I don’t feel like faking the happy feelings.  The truth is that I’m on the outs with the fam and I’m not going to pretend for a holiday that everything is ok.  It’s not ok and it would be awkward and uncomfortable for everyone involved.  I chose to spare the drama and take a pass, but it means that I’m cementing my black sheep position.  I have committed the unforgivable in a passive-aggressive family by refusing to sweep the trash under the rug and I’m sure there will be repercussions.  I can live with that.  So I’ll be making an intimate dinner at my house.   Ya’ll are welcome to come on ovah! (see with the Ruby?) There will be chocolate fondue for dessert.  Jus’ sayin’…
• I have to update my wordpress to the new version and I am askeered.  I haven’t done that before and I’m afraid I’ll lose it all.  Help!  Is it relatively painless?  Is there anything I need to know – like don’t push that button or your blog will self destruct?
• I mentioned before that I’m working with a blog theme designer for a blog makeover and I thought I’d add some bells and whistles.  What are your favorite plugins and what do they do?  What do you like to see on a blog?  I know my sidebars are lameness personified right now, but that’s because I’ve left them alone until after the makeover.  After it’s done I’m going to get serious about adding some coolness so speak now or forevah hold your pieces! (get your hands off your junk – that’s not what I meant! ok, it is what I meant. What can I say?  Dirty monkey!)

That’s all I have right now folks!  Maybe I’ll make the Monday Montage a regular thing because there are always random little things to say.  I know other people do this, though, and I don’t want to poach.  Eggs, those I can poach like a fiend!  The secret is in the ladle…
